Athens. In this ancient city, four Franco-Greek friends reunite one evening for a banquet, after 15 long years of separation. As they attempt to unravel the circumstances of their estrangement, their conversation drifts from the recent debt crisis that shook their homeland to broader reflections on Europe, the Olympian gods, the sharing of the feast, and the crumbs left for the common folk. As the narrative unfolds, two Greeces come to the table: one mythological and eternal, the other contemporary and starkly real. On one side, the humans; on the other, the gods. But what might Zeus say to Angela Merkel, Dionysus to Alexis Tsipras?
Faithful to their poetic universe blending puppetry, theater, music, and now circus, Les Anges au Plafond, with the literary collaboration of Greek novelist Christos Chryssopoulos, invite us on a joyous political and European odyssey in four languages. It is a homage to Greece, the cradle of philosophy, democracy, and... theater!
