A woman in love calls her lover on the telephone. He has decided to leave her for someone else… In one final conversation, she wavers between hope and resignation, pain and the need to know the truth.

In this celebrated monologue by Jean Cocteau—adapted into a lyrical work by Francis Poulenc in 1959—the abandoned woman is often portrayed as nothing more than a heartbroken lover who continually humiliates herself for a man who is clearly no longer interested in her. Through their staging, Mária Devitzaki and Rhiannon Morgan seek to overturn this perspective. The soprano's voice and the dancer's body come together to reveal the inner struggle of a woman who is vulnerable, yet resilient.

Accompanied by a pianist and video projections, the two Luxembourg-based artists tell the story of a romantic breakup in which the protagonist ultimately regains control, becoming the master of her own destiny.

This version is suitable for a theatre program, festival brochure, or website while preserving the tone and meaning of the original French.
